Squad Explanation
-- I attended University of Virginia.  I always wanted to do an all-time team for UVA.  I watched some of the players mentioned. I arrived in the year after Claudio Reyna left UVA.  I watched plenty of Mike Fisher, Ben Olsen, Damian Silvera and Clint Peay.
-- I dod not know much about the program before Bruce Arena's arrival.  Most of the players selected were based upon their professional careers.
-- Damian Silvera was brilliant while in college.  He attended the school at the same time as Claudio Reyna, who left early to play professional football in Germany.
-- Kenny Arena deserved to be on this team. His father is Bruce Arena.
-- Bob Bradley also served as an assistant coach at UVA.
-- Chris Albright was a forward with UVA, but converted to rightabck as a professional player.
-- In 2002, the Atlantic Coast Conference created their 50th Anniversary all-time Men’s Soccer Team.  The following UVA footballers were on the team: Jeff Agoos, Claudio Reyna, John Harkes, AJ Wood, Jeff Gaffney, Mike Fisher, George Gelnovatch, Kyle Martino and Ben Olsen.
-- Jeff Agoos, John Harkes, Claudio Reyna were on my USA All-Time Greatest Team.  Tony Meola was on my honourable mention. All four of them played under Bruce Arena at UVA.
-- I do not know much about Jeff Gaffney and George Gelnovatch, but they are selected into the official ACC all-time team.  They must contributed to the UVA soccer team.
-- Mike Fisher was one of the greatest college players.  We would never know what would become of him if he turned professional.  He played with AJ Wood, Ben Olsen, etc at the same time in UVA.

Brian Bates and his team mates won the 1991, 1992 and 1993 NCAA Men's Soccer Championship. He was the defensive MVP of 1993.
Joe Bell also won a number of awards, including United Soccer Coaches Scholar Player of the Year, First Team Scholar All-American, ACC First Team and ACC Midfielder of the Year.
Andreas Ueland won the 2022 ACC Defensive Player of the Year.
Kyle Martino, in his junior season, he was named ACC Player of the Year. In both his sophomore and junior seasons, he was one of 15 finalists for the Hermann Trophy. He was also included in the alltime ACC XI.
George Gelnovatch was also included in this alltime XI. But I suspect it is for political reasons.
